ABOUT ME

  • Wedding Video Dayton/Cincinnati | I started Studio 213 Films to bring a fresh and unique approach to wedding films. I have always loved the feel and look of traditional film photography. I remember the first time I was in a dark room and the look and feel the photograph had as it appeared. I want the films that I create to have that same look.

Even more important to how the film looks is what the film says about you. We are a small company that does about 20 weddings per year. It is one of the things I love most about what I do. We get to know each couple and their story then we let it unfold during the wedding day.

When I am not filming weddings I am spending time with my family. Tyler, is my oldest son. He is a Aviation management student at Ohio University. He will be doing his solo flight this year. I am very proud of him. Seth, is my 13 year old step son who is such a wonderful boy. He LOVES sports and we spend a great deal of time together either watching or playing golf, basketball or soccer. Tawana and I have been together for five years. She is wonderful and not only supports what I do but is genuinely excited that I love my job!

Someone asked me the other day what inspired me to want to film weddings?   That is easy to answer.  Over the last 5 years a few intovative  film makers had taken what in the past was traditionally known as “cheesy” and transformed it into a beautiful modern experience.  Things tend to trickle down to the midwest and it was a great opportunity to speed that process up and bring what was happening on the east coast and overseas to Ohio. The wedding video is back!

There are a few wedding videographers that I admire, follow and learn from.  One is Jason Magbanua from the Philippines.  A little excerpt from his website:

“My shooting style is highly unobtrusive and candid. I don’t get in the way. I don’t direct events but rather, wait for them to unfold. A wedding day has enough drama, humor and romance by itself. I wouldn’t want to tamper your experience of it by asking you to “act out” something which never really happened in the first place.”

He is an amazing visual storyteller.  Enjoy Jason and his teams latest work above. To check out more visit him at jasonmagbanua.com

  • WEDDING RECEPTION LIGHTING

AUTHOR: // CATEGORY: News & Stuff

There are many different lighting options available for wedding decor. Often the flower service or wedding planner might suggest wedding lights according to the decoration. However, some research on different options in wedding lights can really make for a beautiful reception.

When done well, lighting can turn your wedding venue from simple to stunning, and can make your flowers, cake, and decorations look better. But most important, it can make  you look better!  Your video and photographs will benefit from a little extra effort in planning your wedding lighting.

One of the trends that has grown over the last year is LED lighting.  A few advantages of LED lighting include the variety of colors, low power consumption and low heat.   Below is an example of what  is  considered “over usage” of LED lighting.   The main downside is pretty obvious..   Another disadvantage is that your wedding photographer is going to have to use more flash to offset the extreme purple light  and the result  is that you will loose the natural ambience of the venue.

In this photo (below) the same purple LED uplighting was used to “wash” the walls with color but in this case care was taken to add beautiful white lighting to the dance floor.   This picture of the first dance  was taken directly from the wedding video and really does look beautiful.  The photographer was very happy that they were able to really capture the mood of the reception.

If you have questions as you are planning your lighting, please contact us.  We can help you choose lighting that will enhance your wedding video and photography.

  • DAYTON HOSTS NCAA FIRST FOUR

Dayton rolled out the red carpet for President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister  David Cameron to kick off March Madness at UD Arena.  We were lucky enough to cover the event and not only was able to capture some great footage, but witnessed two historic NCAA comebacks.

BYU trailed Iona by 25 points in the first half, but moved into the Round of 64 with the largest comeback in Men’s Basketball Championship history.

Western Kentucky, the only team in the field with a losing record this season, trailed Mississippi Valley State by 16 points with under 5:00 remaining. The Hilltoppers moved on to the Round of 64 with the largest final-5:00 comeback in Men’s Basketball Championship history.

We love creating wedding videos in Dayton, but really enjoyed this little piece of March Madness!

  • DAYTON WEDDING VIDEO TIP: FIRST DANCE

You’re first dance is an awesome moment. There’s nothing better than watching two people in the center of a dance floor, staring into each other’s eyes and soaking up the moment, with their closest friends and family watching. From the perspective of the event cinematographer, this can be some of the  most dramatic footage of the day. All too often the MC may direct friends and family to join on the dance floor and take away from the moment.

It is important to remember that in order to make a powerful edit, we require the full dance with no couples joining in. We are focusing on the right moments and gathering close, medium and wide shots, as well as reactions from family and friends, to put together this masterpiece.  By asking others to join in (sometimes after less than a minute of dancing), we lose potential shots that  would have made this dance so much better. So to summarize, we suggest the following tips during your first dance.

    1. Tell your MC that you would prefer to dance the entire first dance alone
    2. While dancing, it’s always better to remember to rotate rather than rocking back and forth and pointing in the same direction
    3. If you haven’t yet, practice your dance a few times just for fun. It will help you feel more natural when you dance at your wedding
    4. Try to make sure you stay in the center as much as you can, unless you have a special choreographed dance that forces you to be elsewhere
    5. If you have a choreographed dance, keep in mind that it will be extremely difficult to get close-ups for any length of time and make sure that you practice it until it is second nature
    6. Choreographed dances that are not mastered look unnatural and uncomfortable, so if you can’t get it down, revert back to a natural slow dance that you can be comfotable with
    7. Under no circumstances should you allow any distractions like photo montages during your first dance. This moment is for you only, hence the name “First Dance”
    8. Make sure your dance is at least 2 1/2 minutes, if not longer, so it can be filmed properly
    9. Don’t get nervous, just block everyone out and own the moment

    What is moving pictures?

Moving Pictures is a way for you to capture a moment in time of your children’s life.   A way to freeze all the things we love about childhood.  The funny things kids say –  sound of their voices – The quirky faces they make.  Think of it as a day in the life of your child that you can capture forever.

    How it works?

Every session is unique and based on what your kids love to do.  It could be anything from playing with Legos to a family Picnic at the park.  With your help we ask them questions to get those funny little answers then piece it all together in a wonderful video

    Thanks!
